Car Stress
So, last night on my way home, my car started making a rather loud knocking noise. I didn’t think I would make it home from Georgetown safely, but I did. This morning, the car started, woke up all the neighbors, and made it to the shop in one piece. They took a look and told me it would require a new engine as the old one had died of natural causes.
I didn’t want to shell out that much money for a very well used 2001 vehicle, so I did some internet research, and found the car of my (affordable) dreams. Of course, it wasn’t in my city, so I find myself back in San Antonio.
The good news is that I will have a new car if all goes as planned tomorrow. The bad news is that I gave them a nice chunk of my savings account and will be making car payments for a while. Overall, I am very happy to be getting a new (for me) vehicle. Wish me luck!
Commit
My mind is everywhere today while stranded in the airport with little sleep from the night before. I discovered the following in a Wikipedia article for William Hutchison Murray :
“… but when I said that nothing had been done I erred in one important matter. We had definitely committed ourselves and were halfway out of our ruts. We had put down our passage moneyβ booked a sailing to Bombay. This may sound too simple, but is great in consequence. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”
The words are quite powerful and give reason to stop and think about your current life situation. “Begin it.”
Happiness
I was listening to the radio on my way home the other day, and lucked into this NPR TED Radio Hour. Are you in search of more happiness? This researcher, Matt Killingsworth, would suggest to not let your mind wander. Instead, get lost in the moment. I am trying to focus more on the moment as a result. π
