Monk Parakeets II

I discovered another nest of Monk Parakeets today as I was exploring along Guadalupe Street.  This one was near 38th and Guadalupe.  This is what I have learned so far about the parakeets.

  • They are native of Argentina.
  •

  • They are bright green on top, dull gray on bottom, and have an orange bill.
  •

  • They like to build a stick nest that may be home to several pairs of birds.
  •

  • For some reason, they like to build nests on electric utility poles.
  •

  • They are very social and intelligent birds, and as pets, they can develop a pretty good vocabulary.

I read an interesting article today about the Monk Parakeets of Austin.  Then I discovered the very cool Facebook page.  So, off I went in search of these birds.  As the story goes, the construction at the University of Texas intramural fields has taken some of their homes away since they liked to build nests in the light towers.  It is not confirmed if they will like the new light towers or not – and to complicate things, it is rumored that the grass fields will be replaced with AstroTurf.  Who new that Austin growth would negatively affect bunches of Parakeets?

24 Hour Fitness

IMG_0348

It worked!  I had a membership to a 24 Hour Fitness club in Round Rock that was classified as a “Sport” club.  In the process of reviewing my budget (thanks Mint App) and checking prices online, I discovered that the current rate at the “Super Sport” Club in Pflugerville was less than what I was paying.  I didn’t think they would allow me to switch, but the groovy folks in Pflugerville were able to hook me up.  So now, I have a membership that allows me to use both clubs for a much lower monthly fee.  This will be an improvement for my budget and an improvement for my physique (if I can get to the gym on a regular basis).  I am totally excited about today’s bargain!

Drugs…

IMG_6397

My drugs for my tooth infection are starting to kick in.  The swelling is going down and the pain is relatively manageable.  One side effect is that the pills upset my stomach.  The bonus is that I will lose some weight for not eating so much.  After spending most of the day in bed, I ventured down the street to watch the second half of the football game.  We’ll see how this goes…

Bedridden

This broken tooth has been one of the most painful events of my life.  I have been mostly sleeping all day, because that seems the best way to cope.  In between long naps, my iPad has kept me company.  Take some pills, watch Netflix, cruise social media sites and play a few simple iPad games like Star Wars Commander.  That is my life today.
