Here are some scenes from my hike at Doeskin Ranch in the Balcones Canyonland National Wildlife Refuge. The views from on top of the ridge are beautiful.

Doeskin Ranch – Trail Map
Today’s mission was to hike the outside loop at Doeskin Ranch . This hike is located in the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. It involves a short climb up a ridge and then be prepared for sunshine as there is not much tree cover for most of the trail. You will be rewarded with some beautiful Hill Country views!
Chalk Ridge Falls Park – Fall Colors
Chalk Ridge Falls Park – River Hike
These pictures are from the hike along the Lampasas River at Chalk Ridge Falls Park. I saw several animals and birds along this section of the trail. If you like to fish, this is probably a good area. To hike through this section, just cross the wobbly suspension bridge and follow the red trail markers.
Chalk Ridge Falls Park – Waterfall Hike
Today’s mission was to hike at Chalk Ridge Falls Park. This park is along the Lampasas River, just below the dam for Stillhouse Hollow Lake near Belton, Texas. The park has two main sections that I have found so far – one that follows a spring fed creek that turns into a waterfall and one that follows along the Lampasas River. Both sections offer some good hiking trails and places to swim in the summertime. The pictures in this post are from the waterfall section of the park where I hiked, saw a deer and wished that it was warm enough for lounging in the crystal clear waters of the creek.
Comanche Bluff Trail – Hoxie Bridge
The second bridge you can explore on the Comanche Bluff Hiking Trail is the Hoxie Bridge. Be careful on this one as it is not in the best of shape.
Comanche Bluff Trail – Friendship Bridge
Comanche Bluff Hiking Trail is home to a few historic bridges. These images were taken at Friendship Bridge.
Lost Maples – West Trail
Here are some things you can expect to see if you go hiking in Lost Maples State Natural Area . The hikes there are nice, but come prepared with plenty of water because the sun gets hot on top of the ridges. There are some good swimming holes and a few springs with clear water. I recommend this park if you are in the area. It is special.
Lost Maples – Trail Map
I went hiking at Lost Maples today. It was great and the weather couldn’t have been better. Today’s mission was the West Trail . Being Saturday, it was busy today, but once out on the West Loop Trail, I only saw a few other hikers. I will share some pictures in my next post.
Jacob’s Well
It was a nice day for a drive today, so I went to check out Jacob’s Well , near Wimberly. From the parking area, it is a short walk to the artesian spring. The opening to the swimming hole is only about 12 feet, so it is not a very large place to swim. It is currently closed to swimming, but there were a few people breaking the rules, and a handful of scuba divers descending into the spring. The water was very clear and inviting.
