River Taxi

IMG_5466

After stuffing my face with a huge lunch, I decided to take a river taxi up the San Antonio River to the last stop at the Pearl Brewery.  It was a lovely trip!  If you go, expect to see tourists, other barges, bridges, plants, trees, flowers, ducks, turtles, a lock which raises your boat to the upper river level, waterfalls, and plenty of sunshine!  If you are feeling energetic, you can even step out along the way and go for a hike along the Riverwalk path.

One of the best parts of summer around here is to float one of our beautiful rivers.  I returned to the San Marcos River and rented my tube from Lions Club Tube Rental and River Shuttle Service.  This trip is about an hour long float and ends at a set of rapids.  Super fun!

San Marcos River

IMG_5166

The San Marcos River is one of the best places for swimming.  The water is cool, clear and welcoming.  Sewell Park is always filled with fun people who like to soak up the sun, jump in, swim, and float.  The river begins just north of where these photos were taken – at the San Marcos Springs or Aquarena Springs.  Definitely go for a swim if you find yourself nearby.

North San Gabriel Dam

IMG_4972

Sunsets like these are fairly common at the North San Gabriel Dam that forms Lake Georgetown.  You can approach the walk across the dam from either side – either start from the Cedar Breaks Park area or from the Lake Overlook Park side of the dam.  The walk is mostly on an old two lane road that is now closed to traffic.  You will have a nice vantage point of the lake, the San Gabriel river below the dam, and the city of Georgetown off into the distance.  There are also plenty of photo opportunities here with birds, flowers, deer, and other cool stuff.  If you have the chance to visit, I hope you enjoy the walk and the sights.  πŸ™‚

Woodlands Park

IMG_4603

I am relaxing near the Colorado River at a little known section of Woodlands Park.  The main part of the park has some nice facilities, but if you wander towards the lake and cross a small bridge, you will find a peaceful place on the river.  Picnic tables, cool breezes, shady trees, watercraft passing by, and a nice view are all to be discovered and enjoyed here.  If you need one of the best stair climbing trail workouts in Austin, then check out the River Place Nature Trail, just across the street.  I haven’t hiked that one in a while, so I need to return soon on a non-relaxing day to take on its challenges.

After Rain

2015/01/img_3554.jpg

In my world, it has been raining for two days straight. This is mostly awesome, unless the heavy rains try their best to wake you up in the middle of the night. Luckily, one of my super powers is sleeping.

As a result of the heavy rains, the San Gabriel River is flowing strongly. While walking this evening, I took a few photos to give you an idea of what things looked like. I will also leave you with a quote to think about.

β€œWhen you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” ― Rumi
