I arrived in Galveston late this evening, checked into my hotel, and took a drive along the Seawall to discover the Galveston Police working a crime scene on the beach. I guess I will have to catch up on the news to find out what happened?
Kubo and the Two Strings
The animation was magnificent! I thought the story started out great, especially the part where there is wonderful storytelling in the streets of the village using inventive music and magical origami characters. Then, for me, things fell flat. I lost interest in the characters, and the animation and score were not enough to keep this film afloat. I did enjoy the end credits, however.

Rock Rose All Access
This afternoon, there was a cool event to benefit a well deserving charity at Rock Rose in the Domain. For a tiny fee, you got to roam from one business to another and sample their foods, drinks, and wares. I popped into the following establishments.
- Raven & Lily – A nice little shop in the area
- Birds Barbershop – My latest go to hair cutting place
- Lavaca Street Bar – A casual place to get a drink and watch some sports
- Mad Greens – A salad joint that I visit regularly at the Round Rock location
- Jack & Ginger’s – A great place for a well diversified beer menu
- Thai-Kun – A very tasty and spicy restaurant for original Thai food
- Apanas Coffee – A most excellent coffee bar
Overall, this was a nice event and here are some photos to give you an idea of what the area looks like on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Hell or High Water
Two Texas brothers take on the small town Texas banks. Then they get to take on a couple of Texas Rangers. This movie is extremely well acted and it is an interesting film with plenty of action and comedy along the way. Chris Pine was probably my favorite, but it is a close race. Go check it out if you get the chance.
Instagram Stories
If you are a fan of Snapchat Stories, then you will probably like Instagram Stories just as much (or maybe more). The concept has been recently launched, and it pretty much mimics how things work on Snapchat. You can post 10 second videos or post photos, the content is gone after 24 hours, you can add text, you can add filters, you can draw with a colored marker, and you can see who viewed your stories – but not who took a screenshot of them. Unlike Snapchat, there are no geofilters or facial-mapping. I don’t know how many Instagram Stories I will be posting, but you can follow me (@earthrobert on Instagram). I totally enjoy the stories that are being posted daily by the accounts that I follow. I am addicted to Instagram, and I may need to seek professional help at some point. 🙂
Kasita
Would you like to down size your living space to about 319 square feet? Would you like to own a prefabricated, movable home that could easily slide into a rack-like structure that could be placed in desirable areas in cities across the planet? Would you like to spend less on housing costs and have more disposable income for things like travel? If so, then maybe the Austin startup called Kasita is for you. My first thought is what happens if you have super noisy neighbors? They have a prototype unit located on East Fourth Street in downtown Austin. It is a very interesting concept, and I hope they succeed in their mission. Check it out if you are in the area, or go to the website to learn more about this intriguing venture.
