The Sam Houston Monument in Hermann Park is a pretty impressive sight. The area includes a reflecting pool, the bronze sculpture, and several gardens which may or may not include passing butterflies. When the sun is shining, it makes for a great photography spot.

Texas Book Festival – Butterfly Fountain
The Texas Book Festival is the best time of the year to seek out migrating Monarchs. They typically look for a food source at the fountain on the State Capitol grounds. They are so much fun to photograph, because they don’t stay on one flower blossom for long, but flitter about on their own personal schedule.
Butterfly Swarm
There was a small swarm of Monarch butterflies in the community garden this afternoon. They are migrating south to escape the cold weather. There were so many that they often had to share the purple blossoms that they enjoy so much. Photography is challenging, as they move so fast and the blossoms sway in the wind. The reward is to capture just the right image to share with everyone. Enjoy!

The Butterflies are Back
Sendero Springs Greenbelt
I tried out a new hiking trail this evening, and I struck Texas photography Gold (or at least Silver – I’ll let you decide). Butterflies, roses, windmills, sunsets and more! What a nice evening full of surprises. 🙂
