Butterfly Swarm

There was a small swarm of Monarch butterflies in the community garden this afternoon.  They are migrating south to escape the cold weather.  There were so many that they often had to share the purple blossoms that they enjoy so much.  Photography is challenging, as they move so fast and the blossoms sway in the wind.  The reward is to capture just the right image to share with everyone.  Enjoy!

Beachtown

IMG_1727

My secret place to launch a long hike on the beach is Beachtown.  You drive out towards East Beach, turn in towards the condos, and find a place to park.  There are beautiful homes, a nice public Boardwalk for beach access, and long stretches of beach in either direction.  Today, I hoofed it in the sun out to East Beach and back.  It was a great walk on the beach.

Floodgates

IMG_1517

I took a walk this afternoon to examine the condition of the Colorado River at the floodgates of Tom Miller Dam.  I started at the dam, and then went down for a loop around the trail at Red Bud Isle.  The Isle was partially flooded, but some of the trail remained accessible.  After taking some photos of the flooded state of the river, I returned back up the hill to end up at the dock across from the Hula Hut restaurant.  It turned out to be a nice walk, and a great evening.

Deep Eddy 100th Birthday

IMG_1446

There was time for another celebration today.  It was the 100th birthday for the Deep Eddy Swimming pool.  There was swimming, birthday cake, and a band to help celebrate.  It got busy inside the pool grounds, so I left out the back gate and took a walk along the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail to enjoy some of the sights.
