I attended a fundraiser tonight which started off as a pedicab parade. Apparently one of the pedicab drivers was injured just before SXSW this year and was in need of some assistance. The music was supplied by the Minor Mishap Marching Band, but they all rode along on pedicabs while I marched along to keep up with them. It was a blast, and a good way to get in some walking again tonight.

Wall of Death
Helmets are not required at the Wall of Death, and it is a preferred skill to ride with no hands so you can snatch the dollar bills dangled by the customers hanging out over the top edge of the wall. These guys and their motorcycles and go-carts were great!
Thinkery – Minor Mishap Marching Band
I went back to the Thinkery to watch the Minor Mishap Marching Band perform. They are so much fun. According to their website, “Minor Mishap Marching Band is known for their shenanigans, their black and yellow costumes, and their fun-loving exuberance.” Totally true, and they play great music together too.
HONK! TX – Parade
HONK! TX – Bramaya
My favorite HONK! TX band tonight on South Congress was Bramaya. The description on their website says, “Bramaya is the musical project of Austin-based West African master percussionist Abou Sylla. Named in honor of his father’s village, Abou’s band, Bramaya, combines new musical ideas and traditional West African rhythms.” They totally rocked the stage at Jo’s Coffee. I hope to see them perform again at the remaining two days of the music festival.
HONK! TX – Red 7
Hello Austin people. The HONK! TX Festival is in town this weekend and you should try to get out and enjoy some of these bands. The weather should be great all weekend. Tonight’s event was Downtown at Red 7, but check their website for the rest of the festival locations. This is one of the best music festivals in Austin, in my opinion. 🙂
Thinkery
Austin had a Community Night at the Thinkery. There were chicken puppets, rainbows, water walls, color panels, giant Lite-Brite, random art, and so many more activities. If you have kids, and you live near Austin, and you haven’t brought them here yet, then you should probably punch yourself in the face as punishment (not really, this blog does not normally promote violence). Just get them here as soon as possible. 🙂
Mad Tiger Festival – Mother Falcon
Mother Falcon is a great group of talented artists. They were my favorite band today at the Mad Tiger Festival.
Mad Tiger Festival – Peelander-Z
Peelander-Z is a band from New York City that should just face the facts that they need to go ahead and relocate to Austin. They promise a performance with “intense audience participation and a chance to exercise”. Who could turn that down?
Mad Tiger Festival – Mueller Lake Park
Since the City of Austin cancelled the New Year Celebration in January due to inclement weather, they made it up to us today by having the Mad Tiger Festival. Pretty much an awesome welcome to Spring with fun bands at the Mueller Lake Park. As a secret to you Internet Friends in Austin, check the website for two more events still to come at the Thinkery.
