Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex
A friend at work talked me into volunteering at the State Soccer Tournament. It was held at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex. We slaved away in the concession stand for a few hours, assembling hot dogs, nachos, BBQ sandwiches, and sausage wraps. I am sure the soccer fans loved us for our timely and efficient delivery of tasty snack foods. After our shift work was complete, we hung around and watched some soccer matches. And then the torrential rains came. That gave us the opportunity to go downtown and try out a new restaurant. By the way, Eats on 8th is a great place! My favorite was the Chef’s Special Cheesecake. I am sure to return in full on blogging mode to share this place with you. So, in summary, rained out soccer championships resulted in a wonderful meal with my friend. Yay!
More Poppies
Here are some more photos from walking through the neighborhoods of Georgetown in search of yards full of red poppies. This will give you a better idea of how crazy this town gets for these flowers. It was nice and sunny this afternoon, and this part of Texas is starting to warm up a bit, so I am not sure how much longer these flowers will be on display.
Red Poppies
The story goes that red poppy seeds were brought to Georgetown from Europe soon after WWI. In the springtime, it is relatively easy to find small fields of poppies, patches along fence lines, or maybe even gardens that people have nourished. In April, the town holds a yearly celebration called the Red Poppy Festival. Today I learned that poppies have large flowers on tall thin stalks, making them like sails in the wind. It is difficult to get a nice picture on windy days like today. The fringe benefits, in case you want to pursue the profession of red poppy photographer, are that you get to hang out with the neighborhood cats. 🙂

Wall
What would it be like to put all of your belongings on your back and just go? To travel. To visit some place new and to experience a different culture. Not knowing when you might return…
Where we might go…

Wine Barrel Art
I caught this piece of wine barrel art on display at Cianfrani Coffee Company in Georgetown while drinking my coffee. I thought the flag design was pretty cool, but I am partial to the Texas Flag. Maybe they can make a version with your favorite flag?
Pecan Tree
The pecan tree is the Texas State Tree. It is most awesome at feeding all the birds, giving the squirrels something to bicker over, and providing us with tasty pies. In Texas, when we have finished riding our horses to check on our oil wells, we love to frolic about in our pecan orchards. 🙂
