Booty’s Road Park

IMG_3686

Today’s hike started off at Booty’s Road Park.  This is probably my favorite section of the trails along the San Gabriel River with short cliffs on one side and the River on the other side.  There are birds and deer along the way also.  The trail is gravel in some places and paved in others with resting spots sprinkled throughout.  You can hike for a short while and return to the park, or you can take out on a longer route if you want more exercise.  Overall, a nice hiking experience in Georgetown.

Copperfield Nature Trail

IMG_3683

The Copperfield Nature Trail is about 3.5 miles of trail that runs along Walnut Creek on the East side of I35 in Austin.  I started from Copperfield Park, and followed the trail as it bends along the Creek side.  This trail is embedded in a few neighborhoods, so expect some street noise as you hike.  This makes for a nice walk after work and before the sun sets.

Doeskin Ranch – Trail Map

IMG_3650

If you are looking for a relatively easy and sunny hike just outside of Austin, Doeskin Ranch in the Balcones Canyonlands Natural Wildlife Refuge is a good spot.  The three main trails form a loop that is about 3.5 miles long.  At this time of year you will find a clear stream to cross, rolling hills to climb, and plenty of wildflowers to enjoy.

Enchanted Rock – Echo Canyon Trail

IMG_3372

Echo Canyon Trail is the fun part where you get to do some work.  You scramble across boulders and enjoy the canyon views as you make your way to the summit of Enchanted Rock.  At almost any point on this trail, you can launch yourself on a granite hike directly up the sloping side of Enchanted Rock.

Enchanted Rock – Base Trail

IMG_3368

Turning off of the easy Loop Trail for the more challenging, but still not difficult, Base Trail, turned me directly into the sun and started me on a climb.  This trail runs alongside the back of Enchanted Rock, for views that most visitors don’t see.  I think the majority of people are here for the hike up the summit, and may not realize how much fun the rest of the trails are at Enchanted Rock.
