MetroRail
I went downtown after work today to attend an event. The event was totally boring, but I did take some pictures of the train .
Seaholm Power Plant
I went for a long walk around Town Lake at sunset this evening and decided to take my camera along with me. This resulted in a bunch of photos of Seaholm under construction. It will be interesting to see the final product. Yes, Austin is growing like crazy.
The Contemporary Austin (roof)
My favorite part about The Contemporary Austin today was that they had the roof of the building open for visiting. Of course, I had to take a few photos of the downtown buildings.
The Contemporary Austin (interior)
The artist, Do Ho Suh , has created several pieces, but the standout item is his “series of rooms and passageways from Suh’s 348 West 22nd Street apartment complex and studio where he lived in New York City”. This is made of polyester fabric, stainless steel tubes and stainless steel wire. Pretty cool.
The Contemporary Austin (exterior)
My second museum to visit for free on Austin Museum Day is The Contemporary Austin . This art gallery is located at 7th and Congress, so you just have to run out into the street and snap a photo of the Capitol Building .
LBJ Library (interior)
The interior of the LBJ Library is also pretty cool. There are several exhibits from LBJ’s Presidency, including a mock up of the Oval Office. And now, they have an exhibit covering the 60’s with a jukebox full of songs you can play.
LBJ Library (exterior)
Today is Austin Museum Day , so I decided to visit two museums for free. The first museum is the LBJ Library . I will show you the exterior first. This is a great place for a picnic if you find yourself in the area.
Gone With The Wind
Today I went to see the Gone With The Wind Exhibition at the Harry Ransom Center on the University of Texas campus. They had a ton of memorabilia, including the conserved green curtain dress worn by Vivien Leigh. If you are a fan of the movie, you might want to catch this exhibit before it closes on January 4th, 2015.
