It has been a while since I have taken a road trip. On my way to San Marcos this hot Texas afternoon, I detoured to the city of Lockhart to get some delicious barbecue at Kreuz Market. It wasn’t too busy for a Friday, so I pretty much zipped through the line and ordered some brisket, bread, beans, cheese, and iced tea. I was so hungry for some tasty brisket that I neglected to take a photo until there was just one slice left. Anyways, you get an idea of how good things are here and hopefully one day you will have the opportunity to visit.

Long Lines
It must be the Holidays. The line at Louie Mueller Barbecue was too long – almost out the front door. Lucky for me, the BBQ is so good there. Today’s lunch was moist brisket, turkey, beans, bread, pickles, BBQ sauce, and iced tea. Yummy.
Cooper’s Bar-B-Que – Llano
Today, I am driving west, and I needed some food that would keep me fed for my trip. I stopped in at Cooper’s in Llano, Texas. From the pit, I selected the brisket and the turkey. The trick here is that they don’t weigh your meat until you are at the inside line. So they always over serve on the BBQ from the pit – no matter what you ask for. That is why you see so much food at the table. Needless to say, I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day.
Southside Market & Barbeque
Southside Market from Elgin now has a location in Bastrop. I just had to stop by and check things out. I ordered a two meat plate with brisket, turkey, potato salad, beans, and iced tea. Everything was great.
Black’s Barbecue Austin
I have been wanting to try this location of Black’s Barbecue for a long time. It is located near the University of Texas campus on Guadalupe and 31st and 1/2 Street. It is a small restaurant and today there was a smoker outside and a short line of people on the inside. The brisket was perfect, just as you would expect from a Black’s site. You line up, order your sides, have them slice and weigh your meat selections, pay for everything, get your drinks, then find a table inside or on the outside patio. I highly recommend it if you find yourself in the area.
Black’s Barbecue II
The Original Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart may be the best BBQ joint on the planet. My lunch today was simple – pork chop, brisket, black-eyed peas, and iced tea. If you ever find yourself within driving distance of Black’s, please check it out.
Louie Mueller Barbecue II
“Please form line.” I got lucky today. Zipped right in and ordered my brisket, pork ribs, and beans. The food was awesome, and the line was short. Louie Mueller Barbecue is the best!
Rudy’s II
I got my BBQ fix at Rudy’s tonight. Dinner included moist brisket, turkey, Rudy’s Bar-B-Q Sause, bread, pickles, cream corn, and sweet tea. Everything was wonderful.
Rudy’s
I had a late dinner at Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q tonight. Pretty simple – brisket and iced tea. It was quite tasty as per the norm, and I was almost the last person to leave the establishment.
Stiles Switch BBQ
Tonight’s dinner was consumed at the award winning Stiles Switch BBQ. Nothin’ fancy, just some great Texas BBQ. I enjoyed the moist brisket, turkey breast, mac n cheese, corn casserole, and iced tea. This is a nice casual place on Lamar Blvd. in North Austin, so come and check it out.
