Lunch today was at Mesa Rosa Mexican Restaurant. Their bar is pretty cool looking and one day I need to stop by for happy hour. Today’s feast was chicken fajitas along with chips and their creamy jalapeño sauce. Most excellent!

Polvos
While on South 1st, I had breakfast at Polvos Mexican Restaurant. This is an awesome spot to enjoy interior Mexican food and drinks. They have a corner area for cooking up fresh tortillas and a nice salsa bar. My breakfast of choice today was the Trash Can Plate – “two scrambled eggs mixed with Bacon, Ham, Potatoes, Cheese, Pico de Gallo, Spinach, Sausage, Mushrooms, Chipotle, Machacado, and Chorizo. Served with Beans and Potatoes.” Totally yummy! 🙂
Short N Sweet Cafe
What to do on a rainy day in Austin? How about some Bubble Tea? Short N Sweet Cafe is a good place to chill and get your Bubble Tea on. They have three sizes of drinks, Short, Sweet, and Big Boy. I typically order the almond milk tea with pearls, but as you can see they have plenty of choices. Yay, Bubble Tea!
Galaxy Cafe
My breakfast today while walking around the Clarksville Historic District was at Galaxy Cafe. I selected the build your own breakfast wrap, and my three ingredients of choice were Canadian bacon, potatoes, and baby spinach. This place is pretty yummy.
Opie’s Barbecue
My after hiking dinner was at Opie’s Barbecue in Spicewood. I had brisket, pork ribs, spicy corn, butterbeans, pickles, and iced tea. Check out their menu online and prepare yourself for a good meal if you happen to be in the area and decide to stop by.
Winter Survival Skills
I don’t know how you people who actually live in cold weather climates survive the winter. I imagine you skating, sledding, skiing, snowboarding, and ice fishing as beautiful flakes of snow drift all around you with awesome mountains as your perpetual backdrop.
In the Austin area, we don’t know what to do when we get a few weeks of weather in the 30s. It got so bad today that I actually contemplated going to the gym. I’m not that bored yet. My list of Winter Survival Skills includes going out for pizza rolls. Austin’s Pizza in Round Rock is a good place to do that with specials on Tuesday. I’ll think of you out enjoying those snow flakes and mountains as I dive into my pile of pizza rolls. 🙂
Fredericksburg Brewing Company
Tonight’s dinner was at Fredericksburg Brewing Company. I had a soft pretzel for starters, followed by the Schinken Schnitzel with German Potato Salad and Brewery Onion Rings. It was the perfect meal to follow an afternoon/evening of climbing Enchanted Rock.
Twin Peaks
It was a cold, rainy day in Round Rock, so today’s plan was to get some grub and watch some of the College Football Playoff games. Twin Peaks served up some great pulled pork nachos and some interesting football. Now, let’s start the discussion about opening up the playoffs to eight deserving teams instead of only four.
Casino el Camino
Happy New Year Internet Friends! I am going to bring in the New Year in Downtown Austin and I needed some food to help me make it through the night. A hearty burger from Casino el Camino did the trick. This place on Sixth Street is both a bar and it has a small, but awesome, kitchen in the back. There is eclectic art on the walls, a patio for hanging out, the best jukebox, and an upstairs area for relaxing and chatting. I ordered the Chicago Burger – bacon, romaine lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. Totally yummy! Secret Tip – When you order your food, don’t give them your real name, because when it is ready, they will call you over the loudspeaker in a fun way. It’s best to make them call out something funky to entertain the whole bar. 🙂
