HOPE Farmers Market
I have a confession. I am starting to fall in like with the East side of Austin. Yes, it is filling up with hipsters, but they are people too, and they haven’t completely taken over yet. This slightly rainy Sunday, I visited the HOPE Farmers Market. I planned on walking through and maybe getting a coffee or something. Then I ran into Jackie Venson on stage – and hold it – the guitar music and vocals are amazing. I ended up staying for both of her sets and enjoying her performance. I did also get some coffee and had some fun walking around the Market. There were lady bugs, flowers, guitars, music, fountains, vegetables, coffee, tea, monsters, people, and dogs. Hurray East Austin!

St. Edward’s University – Main Building
On this cloudy, overcast day, I took a walk around St. Edward’s University. The campus is on a hill overlooking Austin and has some scenic views of downtown along with some very lovely fields of Bluebonnets. The Main Building was constructed in 1888 on the highest elevation point on campus, and it makes for some nice photos from any vantage point around campus.

St. Edwards Park – Bull Creek
Bull Creek runs through the park. The water here is clear and inviting, possibly even nicer than the swimming holes in the Austin Greenbelt. I successfully crossed the creek twice today without falling in the water. When it gets warmer, this might be a nice place for a swim or an accidental on purpose fall into the creek. 🙂
St. Edwards Park – Power Lines
If you hike to the top of the ridge at St. Edwards Park, you will get a good workout and also find yourself beneath the buzz of the power lines. There is a road where the park borders the Preserve area that is closed to the public beginning on March 1st. I need to remember to come back earlier in the year next year.
St. Edwards Park – Trails
The trails in St. Edwards Park are pretty easy to navigate. They are marked with colors – red, blue, green, orange, yellow, brown, and purple. The only thing that can get you turned around are the multitude of smaller side trails, so beware. Just keep your bearings by the ridge, the creek, the fields, and the road. If you get turned around, head down the hill, cross the creek, walk through the field towards the traffic sounds of the road. 🙂
St. Edwards Park – Trail Map
I went hiking at St. Edwards Park off of Spicewood Springs Road after work today. It was just over two miles of hiking, with an initial hill climb of about 200 feet to the top of the ridge. This is a great park, and I could have hiked further – easily doubling that distance. I will definitely be back soon to explore more.
