Love’s Labour’s Lost

The Present Company Theater team presented their version of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost this evening on a stage above the downtown Whole Foods Market.  It is a story of a King and three nobles who fall in love with a Princess and her three ladies.  There are complications (of course), and the story ends quite differently than other Shakespeare plays I have seen.  The play happens on weekend nights until May 10th according to their website, so check it out if you have the opportunity.  It is nice to grab some food and drink at Whole Foods and then watch the sunset as the play begins.

Earth Day Festival

IMG_4456

Wednesday is Earth Day.  To celebrate in Austin, there were farm animals, trees, a lake, cloudy skies, kites, flowers, a Lion Dance Team, Capoeira, Belly Dancing, Drummers, The Mayor, food trucks like Load A Bowl, snacks like Jim-Jim’s Italian Water Ice, Teslas, a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus, booths, and tons of other fun.

Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex

IMG_4453

A friend at work talked me into volunteering at the State Soccer Tournament.  It was held at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.  We slaved away in the concession stand for a few hours, assembling hot dogs, nachos, BBQ sandwiches, and sausage wraps.  I am sure the soccer fans loved us for our timely and efficient delivery of tasty snack foods.  After our shift work was complete, we hung around and watched some soccer matches.  And then the torrential rains came.  That gave us the opportunity to go downtown and try out a new restaurant.  By the way, Eats on 8th is a great place!  My favorite was the Chef’s Special Cheesecake.  I am sure to return in full on blogging mode to share this place with you.  So, in summary, rained out soccer championships resulted in a wonderful meal with my friend.  Yay!

Periscope

IMG_4441

My favorite App for the iPad, iPhone, or iPad Touch lately is Periscope.  It allows you to travel the world, see new things, and hang out with different people.  So far today, I have seen places in Italy, France, Australia, and the UK by watching other user’s live feeds.  From their website,

“For viewers, Periscope gives you a new set of eyes and ears.  Travel the world and step into someone else’s shoes.  See what they see, hear what they hear, and hopefully feel what they feel.”

I’ve added a few random screenshots to give you an idea of the endless possibilities you can experience live, including a Venice Beach sunset and a nice storm cloud in Arizona.  Has anyone else tried Periscope, and if so, are you enjoying it?

More Poppies

IMG_4427

Here are some more photos from walking through the neighborhoods of Georgetown in search of yards full of red poppies.  This will give you a better idea of how crazy this town gets for these flowers.  It was nice and sunny this afternoon, and this part of Texas is starting to warm up a bit, so I am not sure how much longer these flowers will be on display.

Pedicab Parade

IMG_4421

I attended a fundraiser tonight which started off as a pedicab parade.  Apparently one of the pedicab drivers was injured just before SXSW this year and was in need of some assistance.  The music was supplied by the Minor Mishap Marching Band, but they all rode along on pedicabs while I marched along to keep up with them.  It was a blast, and a good way to get in some walking again tonight.
