To China, with Love

IMG_1878

The Austin Ballet will be going on tour throughout the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China in October.  To celebrate this event, they had an awesome performance tonight called “To China, with Love” at the Long Center.  They don’t let you take photos of the ballet dancers, but the Long Center, its gorgeous view of Austin, and the inside seating area is fair game.  These photos will give you a feel of what it is like to attend an event put on by the Austin Ballet.

Austin Toy Museum

IMG_1857

Today was Austin Museum Day with free access to several museums across the city.  Did you know that the Austin Toy Museum was a thing?  I found it over in East Austin on Cesar Chavez Street.  It is more of a warehouse than anything else, but they let you wander through and remember some of the toys you had as a kid.  Pretty cool!  Check it out if you find yourself in downtown Austin.

42nd Street

IMG_1848

Tonight’s fun was found at the Georgetown Palace Theater.  42nd Street is a musical based upon a Broadway cast as they practice and prepare for a new show set to open soon.  In walks Peggy Sawyer, from Allentown Pennsylvania.  She is new to the business and on her way to becoming a star.  The Georgetown Palace Theater is an older theater and a cool place to catch a show like this.  Here are a few photos to give you an idea of what the Theater looks like.

Rock Rose All Access

IMG_1681

This afternoon, there was a cool event to benefit a well deserving charity at Rock Rose in the Domain.  For a tiny fee, you got to roam from one business to another and sample their foods, drinks, and wares.  I popped into the following establishments.

  • Raven & Lily – A nice little shop in the area
  • Birds Barbershop – My latest go to hair cutting place
  • Lavaca Street Bar – A casual place to get a drink and watch some sports
  • Mad Greens – A salad joint that I visit regularly at the Round Rock location
  • Jack & Ginger’s – A great place for a well diversified beer menu
  • Thai-Kun – A very tasty and spicy restaurant for original Thai food
  • Apanas Coffee – A most excellent coffee bar

Overall, this was a nice event and here are some photos to give you an idea of what the area looks like on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Comedy of Errors

IMG_1653

This play by Shakespeare has three more free performances left at the Round Rock Amphitheater.  The Comedy of Errors you see here is performed by five actors who move at full speed across the stage and up the staircase in 90 degree temperatures.  They are all amazing to watch, and the play is highly entertaining.

Pinballz II

IMG_1615

On a rainy Saturday afternoon, what better to do than to drop into Pinballz Arcade?  Of course I would search out my favorite coin pushing game – Wizard of Oz.  Today I was skilled or lucky, as I left the joint with lots of prize cards.  They have all sorts of vintage games to play here and it is easy to get lost in the fun for a few hours as the storm clouds pass by.  If you are in Austin, check out one of their three locations and have some fun!

ROT Rally

IMG_1539

It is that time of year again.  Motorcycles are everywhere in Austin for the Republic of Texas Biker Rally.  My favorite event is the motorcycle parade that travels from the Rally site in North Austin to Congress Avenue Downtown.  It is pretty special to cheer for the bikers as they arrive on Congress.  This year I chose a spot in front of the Capitol Building to view the festivities.
