The Brass Tap

IMG_4495

I went to downtown Round Rock this evening to enjoy “Music on Main Street” with a performance by a local bluegrass band.  Once I had my fill of bluegrass music, I wandered across the street to try out a new place for me – The Brass Tap.  I tried the hummus with fresh baked pretzels along with the Save the World Agnus Dei Wit draft beer.  Yes, I did my part to represent on Earth Day.  The history of this building includes time spent (1907 – 1942) as the Economy Drug Store.  If you visit, you can see things like the original heart of pine floor, the original pressed tin ceiling, cast iron stools from the original soda fountain, the original orange marble which is now at the main bar, and an antique safe.  There is the inside bar area, an outdoor patio, and a Biergarten with picnic tables to enjoy.  If you find yourself in downtown Round Rock, then check out this place for some history, food and drinks.

Kawaii Shaved Ice

IMG_4487

Close to the water tower in Downtown Round Rock, there exists the most wonderful place for an icy treat when the weather begins to get warm again.  The high today was 81 degrees Fahrenheit, so an afternoon trip to Kawaii Shaved Ice was the perfect plan.  Some coworkers and I enjoyed the oasis-like setting for a short team building exercise.  I ordered my standby shaved ice flavor – grape.  We then enjoyed the shady tables, shooed off a few small bees who wanted in on the grape action but were too shy to pose for a photo, and had some nice conversations.  I will have to remember to visit again soon and maybe experiment with a new flavor next time…

Love’s Labour’s Lost

IMG_4477

The Present Company Theater team presented their version of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost this evening on a stage above the downtown Whole Foods Market.  It is a story of a King and three nobles who fall in love with a Princess and her three ladies.  There are complications (of course), and the story ends quite differently than other Shakespeare plays I have seen.  The play happens on weekend nights until May 10th according to their website, so check it out if you have the opportunity.  It is nice to grab some food and drink at Whole Foods and then watch the sunset as the play begins.

Earth Day Festival

IMG_4456

Wednesday is Earth Day.  To celebrate in Austin, there were farm animals, trees, a lake, cloudy skies, kites, flowers, a Lion Dance Team, Capoeira, Belly Dancing, Drummers, The Mayor, food trucks like Load A Bowl, snacks like Jim-Jim’s Italian Water Ice, Teslas, a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus, booths, and tons of other fun.

Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex

IMG_4453

A friend at work talked me into volunteering at the State Soccer Tournament.  It was held at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.  We slaved away in the concession stand for a few hours, assembling hot dogs, nachos, BBQ sandwiches, and sausage wraps.  I am sure the soccer fans loved us for our timely and efficient delivery of tasty snack foods.  After our shift work was complete, we hung around and watched some soccer matches.  And then the torrential rains came.  That gave us the opportunity to go downtown and try out a new restaurant.  By the way, Eats on 8th is a great place!  My favorite was the Chef’s Special Cheesecake.  I am sure to return in full on blogging mode to share this place with you.  So, in summary, rained out soccer championships resulted in a wonderful meal with my friend.  Yay!
