The Mueller Airport Control Tower is a lovely piece of history in Austin. It is one structure that is still standing from the old Robert Mueller Airport days. Since then, Austin has grown, and the Airport was moved further outside of the central part of Austin. Lucky for us, it makes for some nice photos and a walk through the neighborhood will bring you up close to a few flowers for some smells and photographs.

Bull Creek District Park
The recent rains in Austin have transformed Bull Creek District Park into a giant water park for the family. People were having a great time this evening with swimming, sliding down the waterfalls, playing on the rope swing, picnicking, and wading through the shallow parts. There were million dollar homes in the hills, wildflowers on the trails, and family pets wondering how they ended up in the middle of a flooded creek. Forget paying those expensive water park fees for a while and get yourself over to Bull Creek for a swim. 🙂

Wild Basin – Waterfall
My goal today at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve was to see the waterfall. I thought it would be raging with all the rain we have had recently, and it did not disappoint. The downside was that the crossings for Bee Creek were also raging and the hiking conditions were muddy in places. A good test for my hiking boots. 🙂
Wild Basin – Trail Map
Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve advertises that it has 2.5 miles of trails. I did the outside loop this evening and finished just before a heavy downpour. I trekked over to view the waterfall, then headed to take in the scenic views. Overall, a nice quick hike.
Mayfield Nature Preserve – Hiking
This hike was much more beautiful than I had expected. Mayfield Nature Preserve had a lot to offer in a relatively small place. I found mushrooms, wildflowers, the lake, a creek, a cave, small waterfalls, and plenty of mud to hike around in due to all the recent rains. Too much fun! 🙂
Bluebonnet Beer Company
So, it turns out that Round Rock has a small brewery. Bluebonnet Beer Company opens its doors to the public on Friday and Saturday evenings and invites the Sweet-n-Cheezy food truck along for the ride. The brewery has been described as “homebrewing on steroids”. They currently have four different brews on tap that they produce for some area bars and restaurants. In addition to that, they offered a seasonal beer which was my beer of choice this evening – a Belgian Wit that is “brightened with the zest of fresh, seasonal Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit”. Definitely check this place out if you find yourself in the area. As a bonus, there is a nice thick field of Bluebonnets just next door. 🙂

St. Edward’s University – Main Building
On this cloudy, overcast day, I took a walk around St. Edward’s University. The campus is on a hill overlooking Austin and has some scenic views of downtown along with some very lovely fields of Bluebonnets. The Main Building was constructed in 1888 on the highest elevation point on campus, and it makes for some nice photos from any vantage point around campus.
