St. Edwards Park – Hiking

IMG_4379

I returned to St. Edwards Park to further explore the trails.  I went up the hill, and across the ridge again, but this time ventured out to the very end of the red trail that follows along Bull Creek.  It was another awesome evening!  I can see making this a regular exercising habit along with my routine walks on the hills of Georgetown.  There is so much to see and experience in this park.  ðŸ™‚

More Red

IMG_4370

I am motoring around the Round Rock Outlet Mall today.  As usual, I hit up the Starbucks, this time for an iced green tea and some internets.  There is more red in the beautiful blooming rose bushes outside then you would imagine possible.  On the inside, they are playing music I’ve never heard before and one groovy lyric stuck with me.

“You can dance in a hurricane, but only if you’re standing in the eye.”

The YouTube video of the song “Eye” by Brandi Carlile is linked below if you want to give it a listen.

Red Poppies

IMG_4363

The story goes that red poppy seeds were brought to Georgetown from Europe soon after WWI.  In the springtime, it is relatively easy to find small fields of poppies, patches along fence lines, or maybe even gardens that people have nourished.  In April, the town holds a yearly celebration called the Red Poppy Festival.  Today I learned that poppies have large flowers on tall thin stalks, making them like sails in the wind.  It is difficult to get a nice picture on windy days like today.  The fringe benefits, in case you want to pursue the profession of red poppy photographer, are that you get to hang out with the neighborhood cats.  ðŸ™‚

HOPE Farmers Market

IMG_4344

I have a confession.  I am starting to fall in like with the East side of Austin.  Yes, it is filling up with hipsters, but they are people too, and they haven’t completely taken over yet.  This slightly rainy Sunday, I visited the HOPE Farmers Market.  I planned on walking through and maybe getting a coffee or something.  Then I ran into Jackie Venson on stage – and hold it – the guitar music and vocals are amazing.  I ended up staying for both of her sets and enjoying her performance.  I did also get some coffee and had some fun walking around the Market.  There were lady bugs, flowers, guitars, music, fountains, vegetables, coffee, tea, monsters, people, and dogs.  Hurray East Austin!

St. Edward’s University – Main Building

IMG_4327

On this cloudy, overcast day, I took a walk around St. Edward’s University.  The campus is on a hill overlooking Austin and has some scenic views of downtown along with some very lovely fields of Bluebonnets.  The Main Building was constructed in 1888 on the highest elevation point on campus, and it makes for some nice photos from any vantage point around campus.

St. Edwards Park – Bull Creek

IMG_4315

Bull Creek runs through the park.  The water here is clear and inviting, possibly even nicer than the swimming holes in the Austin Greenbelt.  I successfully crossed the creek twice today without falling in the water.  When it gets warmer, this might be a nice place for a swim or an accidental on purpose fall into the creek.  ðŸ™‚
