St. Edwards Park – Trails

IMG_4308

The trails in St. Edwards Park are pretty easy to navigate.  They are marked with colors – red, blue, green, orange, yellow, brown, and purple.  The only thing that can get you turned around are the multitude of smaller side trails, so beware.  Just keep your bearings by the ridge, the creek, the fields, and the road.  If you get turned around, head down the hill, cross the creek, walk through the field towards the traffic sounds of the road.  ðŸ™‚

Vulture Babies

IMG_4300

There is this secluded corner of the building at work where the Vultures return year after year to lay their eggs.  I believe these to be Black Vultures.  There are two baby birds this year, and typically they will stick around for about three months or so.  This spot is next to a conference room, so you can take pictures through the dusty windows without disturbing the family.  It is a unique experience to watch them grow up, learn to fly, and then leave this temporary home for another one.

Thinkery – Minor Mishap Marching Band

IMG_4288

I went back to the Thinkery to watch the Minor Mishap Marching Band perform.  They are so much fun.  According to their website, “Minor Mishap Marching Band is known for their shenanigans, their black and yellow costumes, and their fun-loving exuberance.”  Totally true, and they play great music together too.

Brushy Creek Lake Park – Bluebonnets

IMG_4278

I went walking this afternoon at Brushy Creek Lake Park with a side endeavor of bluebonnet photos.  The walk was beautiful, and the bluebonnets were even more astounding.  I wish I could share the aroma of this field with you over the Internet.  There were more flowers than you could imagine, bees, joggers, dogs, grasshoppers, kayakers, and bikers.  A most lovely afternoon was had by all.  ðŸ™‚

Cuba Bakery & Cafe

IMG_4275

Today’s lunchtime mission was to get some empanadas.  According to Wikipedia, “Cuban empanadas are typically filled with seasoned meats (usually ground beef or chicken), folded into dough, and deep-fried.”  That was the case at Cuba Bakery & Cafe in Round Rock.  In the third picture you can see the state of the empanadas in the display case after my friend and I got our orders.  We almost cleaned them out of the chicken and beef ones.  Now we just need to time our assault so that we arrive as they are just coming out of the oven.  Yummy!
