Parts of downtown Austin have it much worse than we do in Round Rock. These pictures are of the flooded Brushy Creek and for comparison, you can see one of my earlier posts from February. Now, the question is how much more rain will this area receive in the near future?

Mount Bonnell
It continued raining in Austin today, so I thought I would see what the view looked like from the top of Mount Bonnell in the rain.
Kerbey Lane Cafe
Yay! Round Rock now has its own Kerbey Lane Cafe (a bit of a novelty for this town because it is open 24/7). I can’t count the number of late night or early morning visits I have made to the original location in a converted house in Austin. The Round Rock location has been open for about a week, and it is already filling up, requiring a wait for a table with a vibrating pager. I ordered breakfast (migas) with a “special” pancake as a side item. The off menu items are always the best here. But there is plenty to choose from on the official menu. If you find yourself in the area, I recommend that you check it out no matter the time of day or night.

Renegade Craft Fair
Word. The Renegade Craft Fair was the coolest. My favorite was the plant your own terrarium booth. 🙂
Peking Opera
I am new to Traditional Peking Opera, but I think I am hooked. I really liked Yu Ji’s sword dance from “Farewell My Concubine”. My favorite was the back and forth conversation between Yang Yanhui and Princess Iron Mirror as she tried to guess what was troubling him so much in “Mother-Son Renuion”. A super fun day!
Asian American Resource Center
Why should I visit the Asian American Resource Center, you might ask. Well, they have many cool events like the Peking Opera performance this afternoon. And if you get there before July 31st, you can see the photo exhibition by Ali Khataw called “Faces of Humanity”. These are some powerful portraits from around the world. If you are not near Austin, then at least check out his website to view his amazing photography.
Mayfield Nature Preserve – Hiking
This hike was much more beautiful than I had expected. Mayfield Nature Preserve had a lot to offer in a relatively small place. I found mushrooms, wildflowers, the lake, a creek, a cave, small waterfalls, and plenty of mud to hike around in due to all the recent rains. Too much fun! 🙂
