North San Gabriel Dam

IMG_4972

Sunsets like these are fairly common at the North San Gabriel Dam that forms Lake Georgetown.  You can approach the walk across the dam from either side – either start from the Cedar Breaks Park area or from the Lake Overlook Park side of the dam.  The walk is mostly on an old two lane road that is now closed to traffic.  You will have a nice vantage point of the lake, the San Gabriel river below the dam, and the city of Georgetown off into the distance.  There are also plenty of photo opportunities here with birds, flowers, deer, and other cool stuff.  If you have the chance to visit, I hope you enjoy the walk and the sights.  πŸ™‚

Mueller Airport Control Tower

IMG_4949

The Mueller Airport Control Tower is a lovely piece of history in Austin.  It is one structure that is still standing from the old Robert Mueller Airport days.  Since then, Austin has grown, and the Airport was moved further outside of the central part of Austin.  Lucky for us, it makes for some nice photos and a walk through the neighborhood will bring you up close to a few flowers for some smells and photographs.

Bull Creek District Park

IMG_4941

The recent rains in Austin have transformed Bull Creek District Park into a giant water park for the family.  People were having a great time this evening with swimming, sliding down the waterfalls, playing on the rope swing, picnicking, and wading through the shallow parts.  There were million dollar homes in the hills, wildflowers on the trails, and family pets wondering how they ended up in the middle of a flooded creek.  Forget paying those expensive water park fees for a while and get yourself over to Bull Creek for a swim.  πŸ™‚

Periscope Map View

IMG_4939

Periscope keeps getting cooler, and I get more and more addicted to the App.  I can hardly fall asleep now without watching an episode of “Sock Cop” to see Tug Boat, Popsicles, Mills Motors, some Doo Doots, Parkours, and Dr. Peppers.  The best new feature (on iOS only for now) is the Map View.  I have provided a few screenshots to give you an idea of how it works.  You click on the globe icon, and you are presented with a world map and choices for some periscopes you can watch that are originating in that specific part of the world.  I can go to Miami, Amsterdam, Cancun, Rome, Honolulu, or anywhere else at the touch of the screen, and see what someone is doing and broadcasting at that moment.  If I am planning a trip, I can maybe find a friendly local and ask them for advice about their city.  The second screenshot is an example of zooming in on the current activity in Austin.  I can even choose geographical areas of the city to see what people are broadcasting from the North side, for example.  Keep innovating, Periscope People, and I’m sure I will return each evening to see what’s new in the world.

Neighborhood Walk

IMG_4931

What can you do when your car is in the shop for alignment, among other things?  You can beg your friend for a ride home from work.  You can go for a swim and then bring your camera along for a neighborhood walk.  You might see an awesome sunset, a bunny, a Versa-Vibe, the half moon, and other cool stuff.  See, who needs a car anyways?  Uh, can someone give me a ride to work in the morning?  πŸ™‚

The Sorcerer

IMG_4920

I am growing to like the Operas of Gilbert and Sullivan.  Today’s escape from the rains in Austin was found watching The Sorcerer.  It is a funny story of a town that drinks a “philtre” or love potion at a wedding of the village aristocrats, and then everyone falls in love with the first person of the opposite sex that they come across. Imagine how crazy that would be.  It makes for a fun story, and you can catch it in Austin through June 28th if you are interested and find yourself in the area.
